John Cocklin has unique experience in police practices, Dram Shop litigation and retail alcohol issues derived from a 34-year law enforcement career with the New Jersey Attorney General’s Criminal Justice (DCJ) and Alcoholic Beverage Control (ABC) Divisions.

As Chief for the ABC, Mr. Cocklin supervised over 17,000 matters involving more than 10,000 alcoholic beverage related businesses. Investigations included underage patrons, visibly intoxicated patrons, acts of violence and other criminal activity.

As Chief at DCJ, Mr. Cocklin supervised 400 Detectives and Investigators in various criminal investigation and training bureaus. He was a commanding member that established the first Statewide Police Shooting Response Team. As a Deputy Chief, he commanded the DCJ Internal Affairs and Prosecutor’s Supervisory Bureau investigating criminal conduct, professional misconduct, use of force, and code of ethics violations of DCJ, the county prosecutor’s offices and the police training academies.

Mr. Cocklin holds a Bachelor of Science with majors in Criminal Justice and Accounting and a Master of Business Administration. He was a 25-year police instructor with additional certifications in firearms and Range Safety.
